In September The Albany Club hosted a three day event, “The Music Against Racism Festival” in conjunction with the established “Love Music, Hate Racism” group who organise events on a national scale.
The festival aims to provide a bridge of common interest and meaningful interchange between different age, race, ability, economic groups and different cultures in our area and to provide an opportunity for people to engage in community activity through the universal language of music.
Activities took place over the weekend of September 25th, 26th & 27th. Friday and Saturday focused mainly on music by a broad range of artistes including prolific headline acts and the very best of local songwriters and performers, and Sunday was very family orientated, again with lots of music and entertainers but also incorporating the Earlsdon Fun Run and engaging displays by The West Midlands Police and Fire Services. Food and refreshments was in plentiful supply and a good time was had by all. Oh yes. |
Local Councilor and former Lord Mayor of Coventry Dave Chater is threw his support behind the occasion in this our first of what we hope will be a yearly event, and he sends this message:
“I’m pleased to endorse the Music Against Racism Festival as Coventry is such a multi cultural City and we need to do all we can to bring all of our citizens together to promote an enlightened environment of tolerance and understanding.”
Dave is also a keen supporter of The “Hope Not Hate” Campaign and “Coventry Against Racism”
Local TV, Radio, and the press including The Coventry Citizen and ECHO Magazine covered the event and it was a fantastic opportunity for Earlsdon residents as well as people and businesses in the local area to make a positive change for the better. We hope you’ll take the opportunity to join us next year. |
